The end of a nightmare

Aiko is sitting behind the window and watching how snow falls on her tiny garden. When spring comes cherry blossoms are absolutely amazing. She used to write a haiku under these cherry blossoms. Now it’s mid winter, all of them are not as beautiful as in spring, but they are covered with huge snow flakes like a women who is ready to marry. This tiny typical Japanese house is a bit chilly and empty, but better than the asylum for her. She feels like she is the only lonely person in the world. Now she try to remember the old times and memories . But her life before being sent to the asylum was 40 years ago. So she started to remember from the beginning.

From the start, her parents. She used to live with her parents in a small town in northern Japan which is called Suginami. She is an only child. She grew up in a normal happy family full of joy. She used to be a very optimistic and clever girl. When she was 18, her parents wanted her to marry. So she had an arranged marriage to a rich 25 year old man. One year after her marriage, her parents died in an earthquake which was typical in that town. From that time she seperated herself apart from the world. Time went by slowly. She became 25, yet she never got pregnant. So her in-laws made her feel guilty. She felt a sense of frustration and disappointment. One day they told her ‘We want a grandchild, our son is getting older, we want someone who can be our heir. But you speechless woman never say anything do nothing, at least you should have to have a child to be like that.’ When Aiko heard that, she never spoke again, and her in-laws sent to the asylum.

During the time when she was in the asylum, she never wanted to talk to anybody. Doctors tried a lot, yet they never heard her voice. She was there like a beautiful moving statue. During that time she was the most beautiful lady in that town. Lot’s of men went there to see her. She didn't bother, at all. She gave them her smile which was like the sun shining or summer coming. However she never spoke to anyone.

After being 40 years in the asylum, she was at last discharged from there. They thought she needed a social life, otherwise she would never speak. But she had nowhere to go and live. So the doctors sent her to her husband.

Her husband became an old man, who was nearly deaf. He’d never smiled since she left, and never married again. His parents had died just they sent her to asylum. Since then stayed alone and become hard working rich man. Because he always thought that he would gave all this money to his beautiful wife and buy her what she wants. Nevertheless her dream was to have a child, nothing else.

Now she is 65, but looks younger than her age, he can mention her without any doubt. When they met after 40 years time, she saw very old man walking towards to her, she could not believe it was her husband. But they never spoke to each other. Just looked into each others eyes.

Now snow becomes heavier than ever. Her heart beats stronger than ever. She tries to write a letter to her husband, but suddenly she realised that she has never written anything since she got married. So she can’t speak, write and doesn’t have a child. The only way to stop her 40 years of Soledad is to make her strong beating heart no longer beats again.

Tomorrow after eating breakfast with her husband, she will commit suicide from the mountain where she was born. It will bring her eternal peace in her strong beating heart and her unusual patient traits.
